Thai Massage and Thai Spa

All this has been part of daily life here for centuries. Before the arrival of modern medicine, herbalists filled the role of doctor and pharmacist. Originally, village doctors were monks or former monks, since Buddhist temples were the center of learning also of worldly matters such as medicine.

Thai traditional medicine holds that the body has four elements: wind, water, earth and fire, and ill health results from an imbalance between them. To remedy an ailment, the village “doctor” would make a herbal pack for the patient to ingest, rub onto the skin, or add to a steam compress. Another major component of traditional medicine is energy. When the energy lines are blocked, the individual will become ill, physically or emotionally. A traditional Thai massage or sauna would be prescribed.

Traditional Thai massage is a proven physical therapy that dates back to ancient India sometime before the lifetime of Buddha. It has been practiced here for centuries, and many swear by it as an effective cure for common ailments such as aches and pains, fevers and nervous strains. Most hotels rated three stars and above offer traditional massage as part of their health and fitness services. All the spa resorts include it in their therapy programs.

Shopping in Krabi for many is an exciting and pleasurable experience. Whether you are shopping for a suit or bargain hunting, looking for that extra special 'something' for someone special back home whatever it is, shopping in Thailand can be fun.

Street vendors often seem to be on every street corner showing you their goods (with a calculator in one hand) from silk scarves, hammocks and sarongs to laser pens etc. If you are interested in any of the wares you find, then it is time to start bargaining, If you are not interested in what is on offer, simply smile and continue on your way.

Night Life & Dine Out

Night-time entertainment for single male visitors can be found mainly in Krabi Town and in pockets of Ao Nang Beach; elsewhere, such as in Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi, there is nothing at all of this kind.

In Krabi Town there are karaoke bars around Soi 2 and Sois 7 and 11 of Maharat Rd. Hostesses can be invited to join your table for a drink and maybe a song. In Ao Nang, try Center Point, a small plaza of bar beers tucked behind the main beachfront. Each plays loud - and different - music and competes with each other to get the customers to sit down.
